V. L. Walker arrived in Melbourne in January 1878 and entered the firm of Mc Lean Bros. and Rigg, ironmongers. In 1880, he joined his brother, Howard Walker, in a business in Sydney, trading with New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. He was eventually killed by natives in the New Hebrides.
